Career
Virender Sehwag opened the batting in Test cricket with a strike rate closer to a limited-overs innings, and did so for a decade. He removed footwork and situational caution from the equation almost entirely, judging length early and hitting through the line regardless of the state of the game.
The method produced two Test triple centuries — he was the first India batter to reach 300 in a Test — and repeatedly put opposition attacks under pressure inside the first session of a match. It also made him vulnerable, but the trade was overwhelmingly in India's favour: his scoring rate bought bowlers time to take twenty wickets.
He was equally destructive in ODIs, where he made a double century, and was a key member of India's 2007 World Twenty20 and 2011 Cricket World Cup squads.
