Career

Yuvraj Singh was India's most important limited-overs middle-order batter of the 2000s: a left-hander with exceptional bat speed through the arc between mid-wicket and long-on, a genuinely useful left-arm spin option and an outstanding fielder in an era when Indian fielding was generally not.

He hit six sixes in an over against England at the 2007 World Twenty20, and four years later was named Player of the Tournament at the 2011 Cricket World Cup, contributing both runs and wickets through the knockout stages. He was subsequently diagnosed with a germ-cell tumour and returned to international cricket after treatment.

His Test career never matched his white-ball output, but in ODIs and T20s he was for a decade the player India built its middle overs around.
